Chapter 28

Kailey presented her badge to the large black bouncer at the main entrance door. His nametag displayed his name with photo identification.

Titus.

The name seemed something he had been destined to grow into. He weighed approximately three hundred pounds with huge shoulders that almost met his ears. Wearing a skintight black t-shirt, the outline of his chiseled chest and abs were prominently presented. Best she could tell, he had no body fat, and in the world of bodybuilders, he probably made those around him envious of his massive steroid growth.

Titus glanced at her badge, looked into her eyes without blinking, and in a deep voice said, “She’s your guest?”

Kailey looked at Raven and back at the man. “Yes.”

His bald head creased as he peered around each of them. “No purses or bags, ladies?”

Kailey nervously shook her head.

He frowned. “You sure now, ladies? Girls gotta have their purses.”

“Honest.”

His stern rocklike face broke into a broad smile as he opened the door. “All right babies, you two enjoy your night.”

His sudden change made Raven and Kailey turn to one another with their eyebrows raised. Raven smiled, took Kailey’s hand, and together they entered Nocturnal Trinity.

Immediately the blasting music cascaded around them in a near deafening wave. Computerized controlled strobe lights, lasers, and wash lights kept pace with the DJ’s music. Sweet smoke and fog drifted through the crowd.

“Is that marijuana?“ Raven asked.

Kailey nodded. “Yep.”

“Sweet,” she said in her throaty voice. “Breathe it in.”

Kailey gave her an odd side-glance, laughed, and then shook her head.

Raven shrugged.

Dancers waved their hands in the air. Glowing neon bracelets of various colors wrapped around most of their wrists. Others swung glow sticks that made weird illusions as they sliced through the air. The swell of the crowd was intimidating, and for a few minutes, Kailey and Raven stepped to the side of the door and simply watched.

“Nothing quite like this back in Boston,” Raven said, leaning close to Kailey’s ear.

“I know!”

“So they’re pretty liberal here? Pot smoking. Half nudes.”

“Anything goes,” an older man standing behind them said. He was shirtless and flashed a perverted wink at them. Sweat dampened his grayish chest hair. Wrinkles covered his drawn face. Bits of drool leaked at the sides of his leering smile as he stared at Raven’s short skirt and then to Kailey’s. He licked the drool from his lips and made a smacking sound that sickened Kailey.

She grabbed Raven’s hand and pulled her toward the dance floor. The stranger cackled as they hurried away.

“Let’s go. He’s a bit too creepy.”

Raven laughed. “You caught that, too? Eeww.”

“Would you like to dance?” Kailey asked.

Raven smiled. “I’d rather get something to drink first.”

“Sure. Let’s make our way to the bar then. Far from the wrinkled perv against the wall.”

“I’m all for that.”

Kailey kept a careful watch for Flora or Eva while she and Raven took a shortcut to the bar by directly avoiding the dance floor. Remembering Flora’s power, Kailey wished to avoid being in the center of a crowd again. She kept an occasional glance toward the main door, just in case she and Raven needed to exit quickly.
